Nicolas De Ro

Hey there, I am Nicolas! I am a PhD student in the Department of Theoretical Physics at the University of Geneva, working in the group of Prof. Julian Sonner.

My research lies at the intersection of quantum and statistical mechanics, with a particular focus on condensed matter and many-body physics. I am primarily interested in the nonequilibrium dynamics of many-body systems, operator dynamics, and quantum chaos and integrability. I also explore classical chaos and nonlinear dynamics, which emerge as the classical limit of the quantum systems I study.

Previously, I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics from the Université libre de Bruxelles, where I spent my final year working under the supervision of Prof. Pierre Gaspard.

Besides conducting research, I am also involved in teaching. Since the beginning of my PhD, I have been a teaching assistant for Group theory for physics students [Spring 2023], Mécanique classique pour mathématicien·nes (Classical mechanics for mathematicians) [Fall 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026], and Méthodes numériques pour physiciens I (Numerical methods for physicists I) [Spring 2026].
